It is recommended that subsequent studies utilize a range of pharmacological agents that target the polyP/FXII/FXI/PK pathway (Chan and Weitz, 2023; Mailer et al., 2022; Vappala et al., 2024) to analyze the effects of complete pathway inhibition, as observed in the gene-knockout mouse lines employed in this study, in comparison to transient interference with residual activity on infection severity and pathogen dissemination.
