Although non-HLA SNPs have a lower individual impact on T1DM susceptibility, a studyby Pociot and Lernmark (Pociot and Lernmark,2016) showed that a genetic score including both HLA andnon-HLA SNPs increased in 8% the screening power to detect individuals with T1DMpredisposition compared to a score that only included HLA SNPs.This score included SNPs in INS, PTPN22,CTLA4, TYK2, and ERBB3 genesin addition to HLA SNPs. Here, CTLA4 is linked to type 1 diabetes mellitus.
