Recently, it was proven that silencing of Abhydrolase-3 from S. sclerotiorum via host-induced gene silencing (HIGS) in transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana (AT1703) significantly downregulated the expression of key polyamine biosynthesis genes, including Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), Spermine synthase, and Spermidine synthase of the fungal pathogen and ultimately slowed fungal infection on AT1703 plants compared to their wild type ones (Walker et al., 2023). Here, SMS is linked to fungal infectious disease.
