LAMP1 and Hyperglycemia: Interestingly, trehalose was not capable of increasing bladder weight, inducing hyperglycemia, or upregulating the expression of key autophagy proteins (LAMP-1 and Beclin-1) in the bladder, suggesting that the detrimental effects of this disaccharide on bladder tissue are independent of bladder remodeling, hyperglycemia, and the activation of the autophagy process.
