The phosphatase WIP1 (wildtype p53-induced phosphatase 1), encoded by PPM1D located on chromosome 17q23.2, is a putative oncoprotein implicated in many malignancies, including neuroblastoma where gain of 17q is a common genetic aberration and a marker of poor prognosis [2–4]. The gene discussed is PPM1D; the disease is neuroblastoma.
