Furthermore, we found preliminary evidence that oTau can increase the concentration of TNFα in the hippocampus (Supplemental Fig. 4, Additional file 1), consistent with previous reports that tau can trigger innate immune responses in the brain [63, 64] and in vivo imaging that tau brain levels are tightly correlated with microglial changes in early AD [65].
