Klf5 is a major player in diabetic and dilated cardiomyopathy, however the rapid onset of this pathology (10 weeks post-injection) were in stark contrast to the mild cardiac hypertrophy observed in heart-specific Klf5 knockout mice at 10 months of age [35], and opposite to the observation that inhibition of Klf5 seems to have protective effects in ischemic cardiomyopathy [36]. The gene discussed is KLF5; the disease is dilated cardiomyopathy.
