We identified 78 secreted proteins that were positively associated with liver steatosis area (Figure 2I), with the top hits including fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4), kallistatin (SERPINA4), perlecan (HSPG2); all have known roles in lipid metabolism and driving MASLD progression.49 This evidence concerns the gene FABP4 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
