Intra-VTA orexin A administration significantly reduced time spent in the open arm of an EPM (t21 = 3.1, p = 0.0052, two-tailed t-test; Figure 4C), as well as the total number of open arm entries (t21 = 2.5, p = 0.023, two-tailed t-test; Figure 4D), suggesting that activation of VTA orexin receptors is sufficient to produce an anxiety-like phenotype similar to what is observed during withdrawal from chronic alcohol. The gene discussed is HCRT; the disease is Anxiety.
