SQLE and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: In a murine model of MASLD, the administration of Phocaeicola vulgatus (formerly Bacteroides vulgatus [283]) produced the bacterial metabolite 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, which downregulated histone acetylation and the transcription of squalene epoxidase, a rate-limiting enzyme in steroid biosynthesis that promotes lipid accumulation in liver cells, leading to the alleviation of MASLD [284].
