Some genes display selective expression in specific areas: UBASH3B, that encodes a protein that inhibits endocytosis of the epidermal growth factor receptor and has been linked to immune driven diseases such as Behçet’s and systemic lupus erythematosus (35) is overexpressed in the cerebellum hemisphere, while AHI1, that is involved in vesicle trafficking and appears to be essential for both cerebellar and cortical development (36), shows upregulation not only in the cerebellum, but also in the hypothalamus, albeit at lower levels. Here, EGFR is linked to systemic lupus erythematosus.
