Melanocytic lesions with spitzoid histological features that harbor activating BRAF (mostly BRAFV600E), NRAS, or inactivating of NF1 mutation, which often act as drivers in conventional nevi or melanomas, are referred to as “Spitzoid melanomas” and, according to the latest WHO classification, are no longer considered to be part of the “true ST family” [23]. This evidence concerns the gene BRAF and spitzoid melanoma.
