TERT and neoplasm: In most cancers, the reactivation of telomerase, a specific protein–RNA complex containing an internal RNA component (telomerase RNA component, TERC) and a catalytic protein (telomerase reverse transcriptase, TERT) with telomere-specific reverse transcriptase activity, is essential for telomere maintenance, leading to limitless cell proliferation and tumor growth [1,2,3].
