The predictive value of haptoglobin for survival in systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) cases is not recommended due to the lack of a statistical difference in haptoglobin concentrations between calves with SIRS (Hp: 0.29 mg/mL; range, 0.05–3.6) and those without (0.22 mg/mL; range, 0–4.2) [58].
