INS and diabetes mellitus: • Isletcells transplantation: Transient insulin independence, requires immunosuppression;safe and well-suited for patients with brittle diabetes and severehypoglycemia. • Stem-cell-derived differentiated β-likecells: Phase I/II trial with VX-880 cells has shown an increase in fasting andpostprandial C-peptide, a decrease in HbA1c and reduced insulin requirement.Insulin independency was described in a few patients.
