Scrapie is a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) that naturally affects goats and sheep caused by the misfolding of the physiological protein PrPC (cellular prion protein) into the pathological isoform PrPSc, commonly known as prion, which is characterized by its self-replicating and infectious nature and its high resistance to radiation, heat, and proteases [1–3]. This evidence concerns the gene PRNP and human prion disease.
