Gal-8 is a widely expressed galectin in human tissues and cancer cells (Cagnoni et al., 2020), which promotes cell proliferation (Oyanadel et al., 2018, Shatz-Azoulay et al., 2020, Zick, 2022) and is overexpressed in several cancers, often correlating with a poor prognosis (Elola et al., 2014). The gene discussed is LGALS8; the disease is cancer.
