Although limited scientific evidence exists, curcumin has been shown to improve cognitive functions, which are impaired as a result of PD, by activating survival-related signaling pathways such as BDNF, and by reducing inflammatory markers and caspase activity in the hippocampus (Yang et al. 2014; Darbinyan et al. 2017, 2022; Madiha and Haider 2019; Motawi et al. 2020). The gene discussed is BDNF; the disease is Parkinson disease.
