In agreement, we found that FAS activity (Figure 3A), hepatic lipids (Figure 3B), TAGs (Figure 3C), ceramide (Figure 3D), and degree of steatosis (Figure 3F, G) were all significantly upregulated by fructose, with a following increase in liver necrosis, as indicated by an increase in plasma ALT levels (Figure 3E). The gene discussed is FAS; the disease is steatosis.
