In contrast to the strong difference observed between males and females in DEN-induced liver cancer and in the development of spontaneous tumors, both male and female FlcnLiKO mice exhibited similar responses to DDC-induced injury and recovery, including increased weight gain (Fig. S6A), and LW/BW ratio (Fig. S6B), higher serum ALT and AST levels (Fig. S6C), impaired biliary regeneration (Fig. S6D), ductular reaction, as demonstrated by SOX9 immunostaining (Fig. S6E), and abnormal cell differentiation, as demonstrated by HNF4α and SOX9 co-immunostaining (Fig. S6E). This evidence concerns the gene SOX9 and liver cancer.
