For example, circSfl and circ-crh-1 control lifespan and aging in Drosophila42 and Caenorhabditis elegans,43 respectively, and several circRNAs regulate senescence in mammalian cell culture.22,44 Additionally, circRNAs are dysregulated in various diseases, including cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Alzheimer and Parkinson’s disease.19,45–47 Despite these insights, the functions of thousands of circRNAs remain to be elucidated.48 This evidence concerns the gene CRH and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
