KCNK13 and neurodegenerative disease: Fatty acid signaling molecules are known to modulate THIK1 function in heterologous systems (1, 12, 13) and genetic variants in microglial lipid metabolic enzymes are known risk factors for development of neurodegenerative disease (47), suggesting that lipid composition in the microglial membrane could serve to modulate THIK1 function in vivo.
