Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, primarily driven by mutations in the KIT (∼80%)and Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Alpha (PDGFRA) (∼5%–10%) genes (Corless et al., 2011; Heinrich et al., 2003). This evidence concerns the gene PDGFRA and mesenchymal cell neoplasm.
