IL6 and Insulin resistance: Changes in the fatty acid (FA) profiles of erythrocyte membranes and plasma contribute to insulin resistance and altered insulin secretion; since different FFAs have opposite effects on circulating inflammatory cytokine levels, including interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and resistin [8], these effects may be either direct or indirect, depending on the modulation of the inflammatory response.
