M7 was enriched in endothelial cells (p = 7.53×10−10, SMOC1, SMOC2, VEGFA COLEC12, and GPD1 among others) and neurons (p = 2.35×10−3, NPTXR; ROBO2 and CPLX2) and was enriched in extracellular matrix organization (p = 5.46×10−13, SMOC1 and SMOC2), axon guidance (p = 7.73×10−13, involving ROBO2 and VEGFA), and axonogenesis (p = 2.43×10−12, involving NRP2 and NRCAM), re-emphasizing the pivotal role of extracellular matrix and axonal processes in AD. This evidence concerns the gene SMOC2 and Alzheimer disease.
