A range of single nucleotide polymorphisms, such as patatin-like phospholipase domain containing 3 (PNPLA3; rs 738409) and transmembrane superfamily member 2 (TM6SF2; rs 58542926) have been associated with the presence of MASLD and disease progression to advanced fibrosis and HCC (49, 50). This evidence concerns the gene PNPLA3 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
