TPO and autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura: The Spanish ITP expert group (8) believes that virus-induced autoimmunity is one of the important mechanisms leading to decreased platelet count in patients; secondly, the ACE2 receptors on the surface of liver cells can be engaged and destroyed by SARS-CoV-2, leading to a decrease in thrombopoietin (TPO) synthesized in liver cells (9); in addition, antibodies and immune complexes can attach to platelet surfaces in patients, leading to increased platelet destruction caused by phagocytosis in the reticuloendothelial system.
