Using prospective samples from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study, Vermeulen and colleagues (10) observed associations between multiple myeloma risk and low blood levels of monocyte chemotactic protein-3 (MCP-3), macrophage inflammatory protein-1 alpha (MIP-1α), fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fractalkine, and transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-α).
