APOA1 and age-related macular degeneration: In the two-sample MR analyses (Figure 3), lower levels of valine (OR = 0.21, 95% CI = 0.06–0.67, p = 8.31 × 10−3), arabinose (OR = 0.76, 95% CI = 0.57–0.99, p = 4.81 × 10−2), and creatine (OR = 0.58, 95% CI = 0.36–0.93, p = 2.40 × 10−2) were determined to be negatively associated with early AMD, whereas higher levels of lysine (OR = 3.83, 95% CI = 1.34–10.96, p = 1.22 × 10−2), alanine (OR = 2.53, 95% CI = 1.37–4.68, p = 3.01 × 10−3), and apolipoprotein A1 (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.10–1.40, p = 4.46 × 10−4) were found to be positively linked to early AMD.
