Interestingly, the expression levels of SUCNR1 increased with the proportion of myofibroblasts (as inferred by deconvolution performed on a publicly available microarray dataset (GSE32537) from IPF/UIP patients (n=119) and controls (n=50) (29, 31)) and COL1A1 gene expression, which further highlighted the potential role of the succinate/SUCNR1 axis in the pathogenesis of lung fibrosis. The gene discussed is COL1A1; the disease is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
