It can be hypothesized that aquaporins (AQPs)are involved, which are water-selective plasma membranechannels that enhance water permeability of cells (Huber etal., 2007), because there are reports confirming that ethanolcan diminish swelling in the cortex after brain injury and thatthis phenomenon is associated with underexpression of AQP4and AQP9 simultaneously with an improvement of cognitiveand motor functions in animals (Wang et al., 2013). Here, AQP9 is linked to injury.
