Some of our previous work has described a decrease in astrocyte density along with an increase in glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) spatial coverage associated with thinner retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness [17], and decreased peripapillary retinal ganglion cell density [18] in marmosets (Callithrix jacchus), a well-established non-human primate model of myopia [19], that were induced with myopia for 4 months and was exacerbated in marmosets induced with myopia for ten months [20]. Here, GFAP is linked to myopia.
