Recent consensus from the Acute Disease Quality Initiative (ADQI) [8] recommends the additional use of biomarkers in clinical practice from AKI risk assessment, prediction, and prevention to diagnosis and management: About 20 stress and damage markers have been evaluated, including neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2)/insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP-7), and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1). This evidence concerns the gene TIMP2 and acute kidney injury.
