While mutated forms of TMEM230 gene products play a pivotal role in the development of many neurodegenerative disorders, such as PD and AD, likely due to the accumulation of misfolded or unfolded proteins, our recent studies strongly support that aberrant regulation of expression of non-mutated forms of TMEM230 may also promote other human diseases or disorders. This evidence concerns the gene TMEM230 and Parkinson disease.
