Some standard clinical immunoassays were described to be influenced by hemolysis, bilirubin and lipemia: C-peptide, estradiol, serum folate, free thyroxin, insulin, and vitamin B12 were found to be affected by hemolysis; while brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), estradiol, triiodothyronine, and homocysteine were affected by high bilirubin concentrations, and BNP, serum folate, and homocysteine were affected by lipids [3]. This evidence concerns the gene NPPB and hyperlipidemia.
