Finally, we considered whether TSP1 could be a potential biomarker of hyperglycaemia, measuring platelet-poor plasma TSP1 levels in healthy volunteers with no known medical conditions (‘healthy controls’) and individuals with type 1 diabetes without evidence of renal microvascular complications, including normal eGFR (>90 ml/min per 1.73m2) and urine albumin/creatinine ratio (<2.5 mg/mmol). This evidence concerns the gene ALB and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
