The human PTEN-inducible putative kinase 1 (PINK1) and Parkin/PRKN are associated with mitochondrial quality control and are a source of regional vulnerability in PD (Ge et al., 2020), of which Parkin is the major causative gene for autosomal recessive juvenile parkinsonism (AR-JP). The gene discussed is PINK1; the disease is Parkinson disease.
