APP and Alzheimer disease: Our previous study found that sleep deprivation could promote the aggravation of cognitive dysfunction in APP/PS1 double transgenic mice, leading to morphological alterations of hippocampal neuronal cells and causing an increase in the expression of senile plaques formed by Aβ42 aggregates in the hippocampus and temporal lobe cortex of mice; and sleep deprivation induced the enhancement of autophagic activity in hippocampal tissues of mice, which may be a mechanism that mediates the onset and progression of AD.
