Methods: Ascitic fluid samples were analyzed using three techniques in 30 ovarian cancer patients: (1) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for Beclin 1, p62/sequestosome 1 (p62/sqstm1), and synaptosomal associated protein 23 (SNAP 23); (2) immunocytochemistry (ICC) for Syntaxin 17 and vesicle-associated membrane protein 8 (VAMP 8) localization; and (3) flow cytometry for epithelial cell identification and Annexin V expression assessment. The gene discussed is SQSTM1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
