The ACE2 gene, assigned to the regulation of systemic arterial blood pressure (S2 Table), is well-known to be involved in different respiratory diseases such as COVID-19, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and Influenza [48], having an important role in body homeostasis, not only through the blood pressure regulation but also with the electrolyte balance [49]. Here, ACE2 is linked to severe acute respiratory syndrome.
