Intriguingly, transgenic expression of HERV-W ENV also led to impaired expression of several other genes that are implicated as genetic risk factors of schizophrenia and ASD, including Cacna1g [64, 67], Ank3 [68], Shank1 [69, 70], and Shank3 [69, 70] (Fig. 2; Supplementary Table 5). The gene discussed is CACNA1G; the disease is schizophrenia.
