In a cohort of 18 CRC samples with both WGBS and RNA-sequencing data available (Fig. 1), we observed an inverse correlation between SLC23A1 expression and DNA methylation levels, especially at flanking active TSSs (r(16) = −0.68, P = 0.0019) (Fig. 3B, Supplementary Fig. 3); low SLC23A1 expression associated with high methylation levels. This evidence concerns the gene SLC23A1 and colorectal carcinoma.
