It has been speculated that the structural differences between the APOE genotypes could explain, at least partially, why APOE4 carriers are more susceptible to heavy metal intoxication and certain diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease (Andreoli and Sprovieri 2017; Arrifano et al. 2018; Birdsall et al. 2010; Godfrey et al. 2003). This evidence concerns the gene APOE and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
