KL and schizophrenia: Regarding the genotype distribution across patients with SZ and controls, we could not implicate the KL-VS variant with the disease status of schizophrenia, also coinciding with the findings of Morar et al.10 and the lack of evidence from the multistage SZ genome-wide association study (GWAS) not supporting any genome-wide significant signals from the Klotho harboring chromosome.56,57 As mentioned earlier, there was also a lack of influence of KL-VSHet+ on KL protein levels in controls (data not shown), with slight evidence of heterozygosity-associated KL elevation in patients.
