Hepatocyte autotaxin expression, which results in increased LPA levels, activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), and amplification of profibrotic signals, promotes liver fibrosis and hepatocarcinogenesis, suggesting that autotaxin/LPA is the causative link in cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) [23,24,25]. This evidence concerns the gene ENPP2 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
