While increased hepcidin and lower haemojuvelin have been associated with advanced fibrosis in a Turkish cohort of NAFLD patients [83], serum and mRNA levels of hepcidin failed to predict steatohepatitis development of liver fat content in another Swedish cohort [84], with a recently published systematic review and metanalysis of high heterogeneity showcasing higher hepcidin levels in NAFLD [85]. Here, HJV is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
