A panel of seven unique miRNA markers (miR-29a, miR-29c, miR-133a, miR-143, miR-145, miR-192, and miR-505) were found to have a higher accuracy than AFP at a cutoff of 20 ng/ml in the detection of early-stage HCC (area-under-the-receiver-operating characteristic-curve 0.824 [95%CI: 0.781–0.868] vs. 0.754 [95%CI: 0.702–0.806], p = 0.015) [143]. This evidence concerns the gene AFP and hepatocellular carcinoma.
