Transient receptor potential cation subfamily M member 8 (TRPM8) mRNA is highly expressed in colonic dorsal root ganglion neurons, with the corresponding protein diffusely distributed throughout the colon wall's nerve fibers, where it interacts with transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channel and transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channel to alleviate inflammation in mouse colitis models (14). The gene discussed is TRPM8; the disease is colitis.
