ALB and metastatic malignant neoplasm: In both univariate and multivariable analysis of long-term survival after hospital discharge, the following covariates were associated with poor survival: sodium levels of ≤125 mEq/l at discharge {hazard ratio [HR] 1.42 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.02–1.98], P = .0382}, albumin <3.5 g/dl at admission [HR 1.48 (95% CI 1.24–1.78), P < .0001], metastatic cancer [HR 1.37 (95% CI 1.15–1.64), P = .0004], emergency admission [HR 1.20 (95% CI 1.01–1.43, P = .0390] and discharge to hospice care [HR 2.57 (95% 2.05–3.23), P < .0001) (Table 2 and Fig. 1).
