Elong et al. used an NS3 based vaccine to demonstrate that CD8+ T cells induced by the vaccine protected mice from lethal challenge48,49 showed that a DNA vaccine that expressed ubiquitinated ZIKV NS3 primarily induced CD8+ T cells that protected in pregnant IFNAR1-/- mice and their fetuses from ZIKV infection.
